About Basecamp Recording Studio

I built Basecamp as a place to make great recordings — mostly for touring singer/songwriters like myself.

It was a natural extension of what I’d already been doing for the past 20 years on the road and working in studios all over the US.
Learn more about my solo music here.

When I started to get requests to produce for other artists I realized I needed a dedicated facility with great acoustics and multiple rooms to track several players simultaneously.

Sitting on two acres of quiet county land, with in-your-face views of the Gallatin National Forest, Basecamp is a balance of clean, organized, and well-designed features that is both professional as well as warm and laid back.   It’s a place I believe inspires artists to create their best.  Check out Basecamp client testimonials.

About Chris Cunningham | producer | singer/songwriter | multi-instrumentalist

I started working with multi track recording in the late 80’s.  Back then I used a Fostex 4 track machine – layering vocals and guitars and mixing down to cassette.  In the digital formats of today, I remain enchanted with the art and craft of taking original songs, adding just the right parts, and careful mixing to bring them to life.  Along the way I’ve collected various instruments that, when used tastefully, can help do this.

Here’s an ongoing list of instruments I often offer to contribute:
  • piano, pump organ, accordion, Rhodes keyboard
  • baritone guitar, slide, electric, rhythm and acoustic finger style guitar
  • banjo, dulcimer, harmonica, trumpet
  • percussion, synthesizer and sampled sounds
  • harmony and background vocals
A CD with great production can often require involving a team of experienced musicians.  I keep an active list of skilled and reliable session players for everything from scoring string parts, playing upright bass, fiddle, mandolin, and several stand out guitarists and drummers.  See the list of Basecamp's favorite session players and check out some session photos.

"I am a Georgia boy who only records in Montana, because there is nowhere else I would ever go than Basecamp.
And there is no one else I would trust with my music than Chris."
